Model Railroad

Ho-scale model Layout

Picture
Cowan Railroad Museum is home to one of the area's largest, oldest, and most beautifully detailed model railroad layouts!  Children love it, and adults love it just as much!

Our amazing layout has features that represent the Cowan Pusher District from the Cowan Yard to Sherwood, Tennessee.  Some of the scale model buildings were built by local residents with intricate detail.

Spend some time looking over the layout during your visit, which will be as educational as it is entertaining!

Live-STeam locomotive

Picture
We are honored to have a Robertson family treasure on display for the public to admire!

The Robertson brothers of Sherwood, Tennessee crafted this beautiful live-steam locomotive many decades ago.  The 4-4-0 design represented a common American locomotive of the late 1800's.

This particular one ran on a 4 and 3/4 inch track on a garden layout.  The brothers would run it on special occasions to entertain the locals.  The locomotive makes it power by burning alcohol to generate up to 25 pounds of steam pressure.
