Relics and Displays
We are pleased to show you our varied collection of relics and memorabilia from years gone by.
Our large selection of photographs preserve moments in time across nearly two centuries of railroading and related industries. You will see rare photos of railroad equipment and assets that could have easily been forgotten if not for these rare reminders of years gone by.
Our displays also features antique tools and railroad equipment, from gigantic locomotive wrenches and track drills to safety lanterns and glass insulators.
The former passenger waiting room features the original oak benches used by generations of rail passengers. We invite you to take a seat, listen to the pendulum of the station clock, and pretend to wait for the northbound local to Nashville!
The waiting room also features an exhibit of telephone and telegraph equipment and a mock-up of the former yard dispatching office.
The former baggage room features an enormous exhibit built by local volunteers for a traveling Smithsonian exhibition. The photos and exhibits here tell the story of "How We Worked" with respect to the coal, iron, cement, and timber industries that developed around the railroad.
Each and every piece in our collection is part of a greater story. Cowan Railroad Museum shows us how a railroad moved a mountain and formed the fabric of our regional culture.
